The Member of Parliament for Techiman South, Hon. Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah, has appealed to Ghanaians especially the youth not to allow themselves to be used by politicians for electoral violence.
Hon. Martin urged the youth to take advantage of the government’s numerous programs and policies to better their lives rather than availing themselves to be used by some politicians to carry out their evil deeds before, during, and after the general elections.
“The day for the elections is not that far and the youth have a responsibility to maintain the peace in the country. When the election is due, most of the advice given to the youth is for them to abstain from violence, I believe we have heard a lot of such advice and we must for once decide to be agents of peace.” He said
He believes Ghanaians have a solemn responsibility to protect the peace and harmony in the country and therefore charges the youth to be cautious of whom they follow during this election year.
In an interview with ASTA FM’s Nana Kwadwo Adu, which was monitored by Elvisanokyenews.com, Hon. Martin, who doubles as the Deputy Minister for Local Government, Decentralization, and Rural Development, re-condemned the elections that erupted in the Techiman South Constituency which resulted in the loss of lives while leaving others with scores of injury.
“Politicians will come and go and we will always have the opportunity to share our ideas but we must allow peace to prevail. What happened during the last elections was very bad but going forward I believe that there are a lot of lessons we all have learned and I can say that Techiman will be peaceful in all, we will continue to engage the youth to ensure peace prevails.” Hon. Martin said
Hon. Martin also pleaded with politicians and other political players within the Techiman South Constituency and the country at large to ensure a free and fair election while ensuring the incident that occurred during the 2020 elections doesn’t repeat itself.
Otumfuo also urged the police to work hard to ensure peace and stability in this year’s elections. Adding that some people are creating fear and panic, the police should put in place measures so that the citizens will be free from fear and panic ahead of the elections.
“I will urge you to work hard since this year is an election year. We have held many elections in this country but when elections are proaching like this people create fear and panic so you must institute pragmatic measures to ensure peaceful and successful elections in the country because you are serving the nation” the Asantehene appealed.
For his part, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akufo-Dampare assured the Asantehene that the police personnel will continue to serve the nation as required by them.
